이러한 구조에서 왕자의 난 이후 정권을 잡은 무하마드 빈 살만(Mohammed bin Salman)의 반부패 캠페인(Anti-Corruption Campaign)으로 인해
빈 탈랄 왕자가 소위 애국적 재산 헌납(Patriotic Contributions)을 강요당하면서 상황이 변화하게 되었었습니다.
그렇게 빈 탈랄 왕자의 신변에 이상이 생기고 재산이 절반으로 줄어드는 상황에서 코로나19까지 터지게 되었죠.
이미 포시즌스 호텔의 다수 지분을 확보하고 있던 빌 게이츠인데 인수는 무슨 말인가 싶을텐데요.
앞서 설명드린 상황들로 인해
빌 게이츠는 빈 탈랄의 포시즌스 지분인 47.5%의 절반인 23.75%를 인수하기로 했습니다.
이에 따라 지금까지 과반이 넘는 지분을 가진 사람이 없던 포시즌스 호텔은
이제 빌 게이츠의 소유가 되었습니다.
이로 인해 지분 구조는 아래와 같이 변경되었습니다.
빌 게이츠(Cascade Investment LLC): 71.25%
알 왈리드 빈 탈랄(Al-Waleed bin Talal) 왕자(Kingdom Holding Co.): 23.75%
이사도어 샤프(Isadore Sharp; 설립자): 5%
매각가는 22.1억 달러(약 2.6조원)라고 합니다.
비상장기업인 포시즌스의 기업가치가 약 100억 달러(약 12조원)라고 알려져있고,
코로나19 상황임을 감안하면 그래도 적정한 매각 대금이라고 생각합니다.
(빈 탈랄이 빈 살만 왕세제에게 탈탈 털릴 때 다른 친구들은 다 떠나도 빌 게이츠는 지지해줬었죠.)
대금은 현금으로 지급된다고 합니다.
