SLH 같은 기업인 호텔 콜렉션(Hotel Collection)에 대해 알아보기 위해 포스팅합니다.
SLH는 호텔을 직접적으로 소유하고 있는 체인이 아닙니다. 간단하게 말해서 개별호텔들끼리의 연합이라고 보시면 됩니다. 부르기따라 다르겠지만 일반적으로 이런 회사들을 'Independent hotel collection'이라고 부릅니다. 그냥 'hotel collection'이라고도 합니다. 기본적으로는 글로벌 대형 호텔 체인에 소속되지 않은 개별 호텔들이 호텔 콜렉션에 가입하는 방식으로 운영됩니다. 호텔 콜렉션 기업들은 심사를 합니다. 호텔 연합이다보니 고객들이 개별 호텔에 예약하는 것보다 다양한 옵션을 제공할 수 있어 고객들을 끌어모으기 쉽니다. 이런 이점 때문에 개별 호텔들이 가입하는 것이지요. 또한 호텔 콜렉션의 멤버십이 있는 경우 개별 호텔은 대규모 멤버십을 운영하는 것과 같은 효과도 누릴 수 있습니다. 호텔 콜렉션 기업은 실제 호텔을 소유하고 위탁 운영하는 것에 대한 부담은 줄이면서 수수료를 받을 수 있었지요. 이런 호텔 콜렉션 기업에는 SLH 외에 Leading Hotels of the World(LHW), Relais & Châteaux, Preferred Hotels & Resorts 등이 있습니다. SLH는 1989년, LHW는 1928년, Relais & Châteaux는 1954년, Preferred Hotels & Resorts은 1968년에 설립되었습니다. 짬밥으로 치면 LWH가 가장 오래되었죠.ㅎ LHW에는 롯데호텔의 '시그니엘 서울'과 신라호텔 서울이 가입되어 있습니다. 또 몇 년 전까지 우리나라 더플라자호텔이Preferred Hotels & Resorts의 'I Prefer'에 가입되어 있었죠. (지금은 메리어트의 Autograph Collection에 가입되어 있습니다.) 며칠전에는 임페리얼팰리스호텔이 가입했다는 기사가 나왔네요. Relais & Châteaux에는 아직 우리나라 호텔이 가입되어 있지 않습니다. 각 콜렉션들 링크드립니다.

앞선 포스팅에서 글로벌 호텔 체인들도 호텔 콜렉션을 만들었다고 말씀드렸었죠? 메리어트(Marriott)의 오토그래프 콜렉션(Autograph Collection), 힐튼(Hilton)의 큐리오 콜렉션(Curio Collection), 하얏트(Hyatt)의 언바운드 콜렉션(Unbound Collection) 등입니다. 오토그래프 콜렉션은 2010년, 큐리오 콜렉션은 2014년, 언바운드 콜렉션은 2016년에 런칭되었습니다. 런칭 시기를 보시면 아시겠지만, 운영의 메리어트라는 소리가 절로 나오죠? (역시 돈 되는 건 다하는 메리어트...) 메리어트의 오토그래프에는 우리나라 더플라자호텔이 가입되어 있습니다. 큐리오와 언바운드에는 아직 우리나라 호텔은 없는 것으로 알고 있어요.역시 각 콜렉션들 링크 드립니다.

매우 간단하게 호텔 콜렉션에 대해 알아봤습니다. 이 시장에 메리어트가 진입한걸 알았을 때만 하더라도 '재미있네'라고 생각했는데 어느 새 생존경쟁이네요.ㅎ이상입니다.
