지난 2월 이후 거의 4개월 만이네요.
세계 소식은 아무래도 관심도가 떨어지다보니 저도 잘 안 적게 되네요.ㅎㅎ

이번 포스팅은 유럽, 중국 등 다른 나라 소식은 줄이고,
미국의 회복세와 그 원인 및 기타 동향에 집중해 보겠습니다.
별도로 적지는 않아서 간단히 말씀드리자면, 유럽과 중국 모두 회복세입니다.
유럽에서는 아스트라제네카를 빠르게 접종한 영국의 회복세가 가파릅니다.
(최근 독일 등에서 아스트라제네카를 허락한 이유가 있지요.)
중국은 2019년 수준을 거의 회복했다고 보시면 됩니다.
1. 미국 호텔 동향
그럼 미국 호텔 실적 보겠습니다.
5/9~15일 호텔 실적-괄호 안은 2019년 대비(2020년 대비 아님 주의)
-객실점유율(OCC, Occupancy): 59.1% (-16.4%)
-ADR(Average daily rate): US$113.54 (-15.4%)
-RevPAR(Revenue per available room): US$67.05 (-29.2%)

보시면 호텔들의 실적이 크게 상승하는 모양새입니다.
2019년 대비 OCC 기준 -20% 이내로 회복했습니다.
전년 대비로는 몇백%성장이구요.
4월 전체 실적을 보더라도 2019년 대비 상당히 회복했었습니다.

실제 지난 3월, TSA 통계 상 2020년 3월 이후 최대 인원이 공항검색대를 통과했습니다.
당연히 여행객이 늘어난다는 소리지요.

그러다보니 이미 3월에 세계 호텔들이 회복세에 들어섰다는 기사들이 나오기 시작했습니다.

이는 호텔 시장만이 아닙니다.
미국의 단기 렌탈 시장(공유숙박) 역시 불타오르고 있습니다.
AirDNA에 따르면 4월 미국 단기 렌탈 예약이 2019년을 뛰어넘었다고 합니다.
아직 중국도 회복하지 못한 단기 렌탈 예약에서 미국은 2019년 대비 5%나 성장했다고 하네요.
또한 단기 렌탈의 OCC 역시 미쳤습니다.
역대 최고 수준의 OCC를 기록하고 있다고 합니다.

에어비앤비는 이미 지난 3월 2019년 1분기 예약 수치를 넘기고, 매출이 5% 성장했다고 밝혔었습니다.

2. 회복세의 원인
이러한 호실적의 이유는 당연하겠지만, 백신 접종이 확산되고 있기 때문입니다.
백신 접종을 마친 사람들의 수가 약 40%에 달하고,
1차 접종만 마친 사람은 50%에 달하고 있습니다.
(저는 회사 근처 병원에 노쑈분 신청해뒀는데... 대기자가 ㅎㄷㄷ 하더군요.)
그러다보니 위 그래프를 보시면 아시겠지만 신규 확진자 수가 18,000명으로 크게 줄었습니다.
(우리나라 기준으로 하면 아직도 어마어마한 수치지만요...;;;)
뉴욕시는 지난 3월 말 백신여권 제도를 시작하기도 했습니다.
Excelsior Pass라고 불리는데요.
IBM이 개발한 플랫폼을 활용했습니다.

3. 회복에 따른 영향
앞서 보셨다 시피 여행산업이 본격적인 회복세에 돌입한 것으로 보이는데요.
이에 따라 다양한 효과가 발생하고 있습니다.
우선 호텔에서 적극적인 마케팅을 펼치고 있는데요.

바로 호텔 직원들에 수요가 폭발하고 있다는 것입니다.
호텔 수요가 크게 증가하면서 호텔들이 직원 고용에 어려움을 겪고 있다고 합니다.

이에 따라 두 가지 상황이 발생할 것으로 예상하는데요.
우선 숙련 노동자의 연봉이 상승할 가능성이 높다는 것입니다.
애초에 이직이 상대적으로 잦은 호텔 노동자들이지만,
이번 기회를 통해 더 많은 임금을 요구할 수 있을 듯 합니다.
(사례는 다르지만, 흡사 흑사병 이후 유럽 같은 상황이랄까요.)
두번째 상황은 당분간 호텔에 대한 고객들의 만족도가 하락할 가능성이 높다는 것입니다.
여행 산업의 회복으로 호텔 숙박료 등 가격은 상대적으로 높아졌으나,
비숙련 노동자가 업무에 익숙해 지기까지 시간이 걸리면서 서비스의 질은 낮아질 것입니다.
이로 인해 투숙객들의 만족도는 하락할 가능성이 클 것으로 보입니다.
이러한 현상은 글로벌 금융위기에서 회복하는 과정에서도 나타났습니다.
글로벌 금융위기 시기에는 유지하던 만족도 수준이 극복되는 과정에서 낮아졌었습니다.
4. 기타 동향
호텔 관련한 기타 동향에 대해서 알아보겠습니다.
우선 인터컨이 로고를 변경했습니다.
지난 2월 변경된 것이라 이미 보신 분들도 많을 듯 하네요.
이는 회사 로고의 변경이라, 인터컨 브랜드 로고는 그대로 인듯 합니다.
