코로나가 슬슬 마지막을 향해 달려가고 있는 요즈음
호텔 체인에서는 신규 호텔이나 브랜드를 확장하고 있는데요.
한번 간단히 알아보겠습니다.
우선 메리어트에서 8,000번째 호텔을 오픈했다는 소식입니다.
호텔 명은 'Marriott Bethesda Downtown at Marriott HQ'입니다.

셰퍼드 호텔은 1841년 카이로에 지어진 호텔인데요.
1900년대 초까지 전세계에서 가장 유명한 호텔이었습니다.
(물론 현재의 호텔은 1952년 화재로 소실된 후 다시 지어진 것이라 다른 건물입니다.)
현재는 리노베이션 중인데요.
2014년부터 문을 닫았는데 결국 10년이나 지난 24년에나 오픈하게 될 것 같습니다.

2. 신규 리워드/로열티 프로그램
코로나 이후 리워드나 로열티 프로그램의 중요성이 급속도로 증가했는데요.
이에 따라 리워드나 로열티 프로그램을 개편하는 사례도 많았습니다.
우선 인터컨은 지난 1월 리워드 프로그램 개편을 발표한 후
'IHG One Rewards'을 런칭했습니다.

익스피디아 그룹 역시 새로운 통합 로얄티 프로그램의 브랜드명을 발표했습니다.
이미 작년 9월에 개편을 발표하긴 했지만
정식으로 'One Key'라는 이름을 선보였습니다.
그동안 익스피디아 그룹의 로얄티 프로그램은
익스피디아는 익스피디아에서만,
호텔스닷컴은 호텔스닷컴에서만
적립하고 사용했었는데요.
이제 익스피디아 그룹 산하의 브랜드를 모두 아우르는 One Key로 거듭나게 되었습니다.
이에 따라 원키 가입자는 약 1.5억명에 이르게 됩니다.
반지의 제왕에 나오는 절대반지 'One Ring to rule them all'이 아닌
'One Key to rule them all'인 셈입니다.
아직 정확한 런칭 일자는 나오지 않았지만 조만간 세부적인 내용이 나올듯 싶습니다.
현재 존재하는 각 프로그램의 포인트 교환비 등을 조율하고 있을 것으로 보이네요.

3. 신규 앱
앱들도 많이 개편되었습니다.
우선 우버인데요.
항공/호텔/기차/액티비티 예약 기능을 추가했습니다.
여행 분야 슈퍼앱이 되려고 하는 중인데요.
슈퍼앱이란 한 앱이 플랫폼이 되어 각종 기능이 해당 앱에 포함되어
해당 앱을 사용하면 다른 앱을 설치하지 않고도 다양한 기능을 이용할 수 있는 것을 의미한다고 보시면 됩니다.
중국의 위챗(Wechat)이 가장 대표적인 슈퍼앱이죠.
(위챗을 사용하시는 분들은 미니프로그램 같은 것들이라고 보셔도 됩니다.)
우리나라의 사례를 들어보면
(사실상 위챗을 따라한다고 보이는)카카오톡에 뱅크/쇼핑/예약/뉴스 등이 들어가 있는 것을 생각하시면 됩니다.

PhocusWire의 OTA 분석에 따르면 ,
여행 산업에서 OTA를 통한 예약이 37%로 공급자 홈페이지를 통한 예약 비율인 63%에 비해 낮은 수준인데요.
OTA가 가장 큰 점유율을 가지고 있는 호텔 산업에서
OTA의 점유율이 현재 52%에서 25년에는 48%까지 줄어들 것으로 전망되었습니다.
이런 예상에 따른 OTA의 위기감이 로열티 프로그램 개편, 슈퍼앱으로의 도약 등을 이끌고 있지 않나 싶습니다.
